Neue Mozart-Ausgabe in Productions Across the US

Bärenreiter’s New Mozart Edition (Neue Mozart-Ausgabe) can be found behind the scenes and in the orchestra pit for two major Mozart productions this month with the Minnesota and Fort Worth Opera Companies. With a production from the Komische Oper Belin, Minnesota Opera opens a run of The Magic Flute on April 12 that is destined to enchant afficionados and newcomers alike. Directed by Suzanne Andrade and Barrie Kosky with British theatre group 1927, the production reimagines Mozart’s beloved comedy with thrilling film animation and extraordinary stage and costume design. Later this month, Fort Worth Opera delights audiences with its production of Così fan tutte, directed by David Gately and conducted by Garrett Keast. The production opens April 26 at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, TX.

Based on Mozart’s autograph manuscripts as well as all available source material, the Complete Neue Mozart-Ausgabe is universally regarded as an indispensible resource for authentic performance and study of Mozart’s works. Edited by the International Mozarteum Foundation, each edition includes complete critical performance materials as well as sketches, drafts and fragments of each work. Each volume also contains a detailed preface and facsimile reproductions from the source material, in addition to a separately published critical report.

Across the US, several other performances will use the Neue Mozart-Ausgabe this month, including two productions of Don Giovanni at both Opera San Jose and Boston University’s Opera Institute. The University of North Carolina School of the Arts also employs the edition for its presentation of Mozart’s early opera, La finta giardiniera, on April 23 at the DeMille Theatre in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
