Brooklyn Academy of Music Presents "VIJAY IYER: Music of Transformation"

The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) presents "VIJAY IYER: Music of Transformation", a multimedia event celebrating the music of composer and pianist Vijay Iyer. The performances, which take place December 18-20, include three works performed by Iyer and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), conducted by Steven Schick. The program features the world premiere of a new work for solo piano, commissioned by BAM, along with Iyer's recent suite Mutations I-X, for piano, string quartet and electronics. The event also features Radhe Radhe: Rites of Holi, Prashant Bhargava’s film screened with live performance of Iyer’s original score. The work, acclaimed as “brilliant” and “exciting” (NPR Music), documents the Hindu festival of Holi and also commemorates the 100th anniversary of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. The performances take place at BAM’s Harvey Theater in Brooklyn, NY as part of the 2014 Next Wave Festival.

Following recent performances of Mutations I-X and Radhe Radhe: Rites of Holi at The Strathmore in Washington DC and OZ in Nashville, TN, the works are also presented on December 5 at Los Angeles’s Royce Hall. Steven Schick conducts the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), along with violinists Miranda Cuckson and Michi Wiancko, violist Kyle Armbrust, cellist Kivie Cahn-Lipmann and Iyer as pianist.
